2022, IT WAS A GREAT YEAR!

It’s been a while since we’ve let you hear from us, but certainly not without reason! Wow, what a fantastic and jam-packed season we have had in our beautiful Posada. The first season without any travel restrictions and it was evident. New faces and “old acquaintances” who wanted to revisit “Posada” for a few days or a week. We enjoyed it again. Hardly imaginable for others: long days in the hotel, although tiring, are still experienced as non-work. It’s all still far too much fun. All our guests went out again full of enthusiasm to discover beautiful places, but above all, enjoy the beautiful spots and terraces of our picturesque Ojen.

Fresh Season

For us, this season felt like a fresh start, to pick things up again after two, to say the least, difficult years. After all the uncertainty, we again had a full and incredibly busy season, which was really hard work. We would never have managed this without our hard-working staff.

At the beginning of May, Amy bade us farewell after almost two years of loyal service, to work at bar/restaurant Pinchos y Chocolates further down the street. So thankfully, we don’t have to walk far to catch up.

Our regular ladies Saida, Aicha and Claudia again worked at full speed in the blood heat, making sure the room was fresh day after day. We also had help this season from Paula, Raquel, Marie Carmen, Sara and Sonia, who packed guests with their Spanish charm.

And this year there was Anne, our new regular from the Netherlands. With her Hotel School background and huge passion for hospitality, she is a great addition to the team. She moved to sunny Spain in April to gain experience for her future dream of running her own B&B or (small) hotel. Well we can tell, when the time comes, we will be her first guests, what a winner.

And last but not least, Roosmarijn who helped with breakfast and dinner, still proud to see our daughter among the guests, asking in several languages how do you like your egg fried.

Fiesta

Normal life also resumed in and around the village. Almost every weekend there was a festivity. From Ojeando to a Gaypride and from a chess tournament to Halloween, the Spanish know how to party. During the Flamengo festival, the hotel was copied on a large canvas and used as a stage, this was a big surprise for the whole village.

The annual Feria in October again took place in all its glory. Six days of partying from noon until late (or early) in the night/morning. Fortunately, we had stocked up enough earplugs for our guests and everyone had a great time.

Casas and Finca

Not only in the hotel, but also in the houses we rent out, many epicureans could be found.

The double house Casa Fuente, with a perfect location in the middle of the village and a lovely roof terrace with sea views, was a fine home base for many couples to explore the area.

Casa Charcas, suitable for 4 people, was enjoyed by young and old alike. With 2 ensuite bathrooms and a spacious roof terrace, equipped with all amenities, this is the ideal house for both families and, for example, two couples, with plenty of privacy and space.

Casa Amaya, located around the corner from the hotel has been rented to 1 family all summer, but from next year it will also be available for holidays. Here up to 6 people can enjoy an authentic Spanish house, with again a fantastic roof terrace.

Finally, we were allowed to add a new pearl to our portfolio this year; Finca Cielo y Tierra. An amazing villa, located in an oasis of peace and quiet just outside the village, with a private pool and stunning views over the green mountains and valleys. In June, the first guests were allowed to kick off and with each stay that followed, all the finishing touches were added. From smaller parties of 4/6 people, to families of 12, the possibilities are endless due to the additional guest house.

The family

After four years in Ojen, our children speak almost better Spanish than Dutch and feel completely at home. Roosmarijn is now 12 and started her first year of ‘bridge class’ in September. The first two years of secondary school can either be followed in Marbella or at the same school in Ojen, and Roos has chosen the last option. Nice and within walking distance from home, with her friends nearby. She still plays volleyball fanatically and plays matches and/or tournaments every weekend. Apart from her own team, she sometimes even plays with the older ladies, wow!

The twins are also doing great at school, one better at maths, the other better at language ;). Every day after school they are picked up by friends to play outside, something that is so nice about living in this small village. Vajen has traded dancing for basketball and is getting better every week. Supposedly, she wakes up half the village during their siesta when she is once again practising in the streets. Joel remains a real footballer (who will he get that interest from) and barely sleeps with a ball in his hands. Occasionally he also cools off at home with his Nintendo or Playstation, but more often he can be found outside for a game.

We are super proud of all three of them, how they have found their way here and are so independent!

Winter

From 15 December to 15 February, we will close the doors of La Posada del Angel for a well-deserved holiday. After four years without a holiday, we feel it is important to spend time with the family. First we will go to the Netherlands for a while, to celebrate Christmas and New Year with family and friends. In January, an amazing trip of almost three weeks to Mexico awaits us, something we are really looking forward to! After that, we are obviously eager to get back to work, because that’s what we like doing best. Welcoming guests, pampering them and showing them all the beauty this region has to offer!
